Reed Prior -- Our Financial Engineer & Turnaround Guy
Over the course of his career, Reed has been the CEO of ten
bioscience companies, including 3 biotech companies, 5 medtech companies, and 2 in vitro diagnostics companies.
Of these, 8 were privately held and venture capital backed, and 2 companies were publicly held NASDAQ listed firms. Most
needed substantial restructuring or repositioning. His companies have ranged in location across the US from the
West coast, to the Midwest, to the East coast, as well as in the UK. He led 3 companies to their first
FDA product approvals. He has successfully negotiated a number of corporate alliances and mergers with
both domestic and international partners, and has raised $183 million in equity and debt capital from a variety of sources.
Among others, Reed was formerly Chairman and CEO of Seragen, Inc., which he sold to Ligand Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (NASDAQ:LGND),
and earlier had served as President and CEO of i-STAT Corporation, now a part of Abbott Laboratories. Before becoming a CEO, Reed served as a venture capitalist for
Marine (later Bank One) Venture Capital, Vice President-Marketing for Promega Corporation, and Director of International
Marketing for the Waters Associates subsidiary of Millipore Corporation. He holds a B.S. in Biophysics from Michigan
State University and an MBA from Harvard Business School. His avocations are amateur ballroom dancing,
road bicycling, ham radio, aircraft flying, and flight instructing in both airplanes and helicopters.
Steve Peltzman -- Our Company Builder, Fixer, and Administrator
Steve began his career with the medical business of Corning Glass, and then
moved on to Millipore. He built a strong reputation for his expertise in marketing, sales, and distribution as demonstrated
by a series of executive level promotions in these functions. Over the past 25 years, Steve has served as General Manager,
President and/or CEO of eight health-care companies as well as several true start-ups. These firms span a broad spectrum
of health technology products, ranging from point of care diagnostics, small molecule cancer drugs and cell therapy, to drug
delivery technologies and biomarkers for personalized medicine and vaccines. Among other companies, Steve was the President
and CEO of Applied bioTechnology,
Inc., and the President and COO of OSI Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ:OSIP). In addition to his leadership roles, Steve
has often consulted to a variety of firms for M&A, capital acquisition, and corporate marketing. Steve has been
a member of TEC, Angel Healthcare Investors, LLC., and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center’s Board of Overseers.
He is a graduate of the University of Rochester and has completed his AMP at Harvard University’s Graduate School of
Business Administration. Steve is a Fellow at Boston University’s School Of Management.
Gary Stroy -- Our Market Visionary and Startup Expert
Gary has in-depth experiences in both the pharmaceutical and medical device businesses. From 1969 to 2004 he was a senior manager at four large pharmaceutical firms (GSK,
Baxter, Syntex and Bayer), a founder of seven venture-backed medical device companies (Sicca Labs, LifeScan, Biotrack, ChemTrak,
Aprise, Abaxis and LXN), an angel investor, venture partner or general partner with several first-tier West Coast venture
capital firms (Sequoia Capital, USVP, Delphi Ventures, MedVenture Associates and Walden International) and a board member
at several drug and device firms (RxKinetix, Cutera, Avocet, NeurogesX, Coalescent Surgical, Accumetrics and Carbylan Biosurgery). Since 2005, Gary has specialized in funding, restructuring or merging startup
companies. He earned an MS in Industrial Pharmacy (double major in Pharmacology and Business) from the University of Nebraska,
a BS degree in Chemistry from Colorado State University and a Certificate in International Business from UCLA. He has been a featured speaker at several medical meetings on topics in both science and business and is
recognized worldwide for his pioneering contributions in immunoassay technology and diabetes management. He pioneered the use of immunoassay technology in therapeutic drug monitoring and is often credited for
conceiving of the first “personal glucose monitor”, a consumer device that revolutionized the management of diabetes
and created an $8+ billion world wide business.
